Republican Council Speak

July 2011

Councilman Fox:
– Reported that the Kakeout Rd. paving project has begun. The contractor Mike Fitzpatrick and Son’s will begin with drainage and select curbing replacement with final paving to be completed prior to the start of the 2011-2012 school year.
– Road patching will continue as funding allows.

Councilman Regis:
– Absent

Councilman Verdonik:
– Reported that the first phase of the water main installation on Bartholdi Avenue has been completed which included the Belleview Ave. and Mabey Lane branches.
– Work will commence within the next few weeks on the replacement of the Butler Museum foundation which will be funded through a grant. Further a grant application is being pursued to fund the replacement of the building windows.

Councilman Vath:
– Reported that even though the Borough Budget has been adopted it will still be necessary to monitor expenses closely as we need to continue to build up our surplus account. Funds from this account can be utilized in future budgets to limit the tax burden to residents. Also in anticipation of another difficult budget year work will begin this fall on the 2012 budget.
– The Board of Health was advised by our public health nurse that measles outbreaks are on the rise within the United States and abroad. In response to this change physicians are now administering one dose of the MMR vaccine to children under the age of 12 months who are travelling abroad and 2 doses for children over 12 months.

Councilman Meier:
– All new riser poles are being installed with new circuits on Carey Ave.
– The transition to the new automatic metering system continues and will be going live in the upcoming months. Councilman Meier assured everyone that this will in no way result in the elimination of any positions however as certain staff retire they will not be replaced.
– New bucket truck has been received which was funded through the electric utility.
